WFD – The World Federation of the Deaf is a global non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting the human rights of deaf people worldwide. Representing over 138 national associations across every continent, the WFD works to advance sign language rights, education, accessibility, and full participation in society. With a strong presence in international advocacy, the WFD collaborates with governments, partners, and global institutions to build a world where deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere.

It represents and protects deaf people and deaf people with additional disabilities in Italy, as recognized by the State. ENS is a founding member of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), established in Rome in 1951. It operates throughout the country, with more than 120 local branches across Italy.
In collaboration with:
LaCAM ISTC‑CNR – The Language and Communication Across Modalities Research Laboratory of the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of the National Research Council of Italy was the first institution in Italy to provide a scientific and public voice for Italian Sign Language (LIS) and the Deaf community. For many years, it has collaborated with ENS, carrying out numerous projects, including scholarships for Deaf and hearing students and the organization of scientific and outreach events, such as conferences on LIS.
SILIS – The LIS School of the SILIS Group, active since 1989, organizes annual LIS courses for both Deaf and hearing participants at all proficiency levels, as well as training programs for Deaf and hearing Communication Assistants, aspiring LIS interpreters, and aspiring LIS teachers. In addition to training, the School also supports research on LIS at both national and international levels, providing consultancy for Rai’s LIS news editions and offering organizational support for national and international scientific conferences.
Welcome
Seventy-five years after the WFD was founded in Rome on 23 September 1951, this two-day conference marks a historic milestone in our global movement and a day of celebration. Under the theme “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights,” we invite participants from around the world to reflect on past achievements, address present challenges, and shape a future where the human rights of deaf people are fully recognized and upheld.
